Customs-free shopping limit from e-commerce sites abroad reduced to 30 euros
Minister of Customs and Trade Bülent Tüfenkci said, "We have seen that our customs exemption rates are very high for products imported from abroad through e-commerce. We took this proposal to the Council of Ministers and reduced it to 30 euros."
Regarding the arrangement at the customs-free shopping limit from abroad, Tüfenkci provided the following information: "There was a problem that was addressed to me at our last Assembly meeting. They said, 'Orders from abroad to Turkey up to 75 euros can enter without customs, which leads to unfair competition.' We took it into consideration and found that when our e-commerce firms sent products abroad, with the rates they encountered at customs, our customs exemption rates to products imported from abroad via e-commerce were very high. We took this proposal to the Council of Ministers and reduced it to 30 euros. Europe is implementing this at 22.5 euros. In the next few days, it will be published in the Official Gazette and come into force."
In addition to this situation, the sernifications of companies that do not have samples, catalogues or commercial value from abroad and are under the limit, but are subject to processing, such as customs products, continue. After checks, which are entirely on the initiative of customs, there can be a cost of around $1,000 for samples of $20 to $30.
