Single Window System in Customs
The Ministry of Customs and Trade was only physically doing document checks on customs until recently. However, it also launched the Single Window System application, where inspections can be made in the electronic environment. With the system, shortening processing times and preventing fraud in the document is stated as the main objective.
More than 300 documents are known to be involved in foreign trade transactions in our country. Some of these (around 20 documents) are supplied by customs authorities. The rest is possible from various institutions. With the e-application phase of the system, companies are required to apply for a single point in the process of obtaining permits and documents and receive their results from a single point. Thus, with all the required documents being supplied from a single point during customs procedures, git-come, time and money losses are reduced.
In addition, manual document checks made via e-document will be carried out electronically, preventing user errors and fraud.
Along with these, the waste of paper will also be prevented, as transactions with the Single Window System will be carried out in a paperless environment.
According to the World Bank's Cross-border Trade Report published in 2012, at 82% of the world's economies, electronic declarations or data can be transferred to customs authorities at some point in the customs process. According to the study in the same report, 49 of the 150 countries involved in the study stated that a single window system was being used.
