$5 Billion in Sales in One Hour
An estimated $5 billion was made in one hour on the Alibaba site today, where 84% of online purchases take place in China.
Considered the world's largest shopping event, November 11 sold 10 billion yuan ($1.43 billion) in the first 7 minutes of Singles Day, and 36.2 billion yuan ($5 billion) in the first hour. Alibaba's transactions, which sold $3.9 billion in the first hour of last year, increased by 25% this year.
Due to the "Double 11" (November 11) Singles Day shopping that has become traditional in China, there is a high concentration of product sales over the internet. This 24-hour time period allows shopping to take advantage of special discounts on virtual sites in many products such as shopping spree, white goods, furniture, clothing and electronics.
